Hello, Reader!
The video and podcast are now available.
We brought back a service from 2022 that aligns with today's readings. Join Fr. Matthew as we begin our Advent journey.
A look at today's readings
Reflection on the Readings for the 1st Sunday of Advent 2025
Isaiah 2:1-5 – Isaiah envisions God’s future kingdom where all nations seek His guidance and peace prevails everywhere. Weapons of war are turned into farming tools, and nations cease preparations for battle. The prophet urges us to walk in God’s light today.
Psalm 122 – This joyful psalm celebrates a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, where tribes gather for worship. The psalmist encourages us to pray for peace and prosperity in God’s house and among His people.
Romans 13:11-14 – Paul urgently urges believers to awaken from spiritual slumber as salvation nears. He encourages us to leave darkness behind and put on the armor of light, living responsibly by reflecting Christ's character and presence.
Matthew 24:36-44 – Jesus warns that no one knows the day or hour of His return. Just like Noah’s generation was caught off guard, we must stay alert and ready, because the Son of Man will come at an unexpected time.
Central Theme: Advent begins with a call to vigilant preparation and hopeful anticipation. We are to wake up, stay alert, and walk in God’s light now—living in response to both Christ’s first coming in humility and His promised return in glory, reflecting the peace and justice of His kingdom.
