Join us for Mass!

The Season After Pentecost 2025

St. John the Divine

Hello, Reader!

This morning, we gather for Mass, and we would love for you to join us.

We hope you'll join us both as we grow together in prayer, praise, and fellowship.

A look at today's readings

Scripture Readings for Christ the King Sunday (Proper 29, Year C, Track 2)

Old Testament – Jeremiah 23:1-6: God condemns the shepherds who have scattered and neglected His flock, promising to gather the remnant Himself and raise up a righteous Branch from David's line who will reign as king and execute justice and righteousness.

Psalm 46: A psalm of confidence declaring God as our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, with the refrain "The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold."

Epistle – Colossians 1:11-20: Paul's magnificent hymn describes Christ as the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, in whom everything was created and through whom all things are held together. It emphasizes that God reconciles all things by making peace through the blood of His cross.

Gospel – Luke 23:33-43: The crucifixion scene where Jesus is mocked as "King of the Jews," but one criminal recognizes Him, asking to be remembered in His kingdom, and Jesus promises him Paradise that very day.

Main Theme

Christ's kingship is revealed paradoxically through the cross - a kingdom of grace where the last are first, where Christ reigns not through oppressive power but through redemptive love, welcoming all who come in need rather than through achievement.

Did you know we have a webpage for each Sunday service? We aim to stay a week ahead, so you can view the readings and more from the week prior if you'd like. Or go back and see what we did!

If you feel moved to pray for others, we encourage you to add those from our prayer list to your prayers to strengthen our community.

If you need ideas for prayer, consider using prayers from the Book of Common Prayer to support you on your prayer journey.

Don’t forget to check out this week's announcements.

Blessings, and have a great week!
